Hout BaySouth Africa

The scene is a detailed capture of a waterfront area in Hout Bay, South Africa. A large, adult Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus) stands prominently on a grey concrete dock in the foreground, facing left with its left leg raised mid-step. The gull has a white head, neck, and underparts, with black wings and back. Its yellow beak features a red spot on the lower mandible, and its legs are pale. Behind the standing gull, in the rippled grey water, the dark back and fanned tail feathers of another partially submerged bird are visible, suggesting it is swimming or bathing. The concrete dock exhibits stains, minor cracks, and numerous bird droppings. Two rusted metal plates are bolted onto the concrete surface. Dark, worn rubber fenders are positioned along the edge of the dock between the concrete and the water. On the far right, the lower section of a red boat hull is visible, featuring a circular fixture and a band of black anti-fouling paint below the waterline. The boat's reflection is present in the water.
