The scene depicts the "Umbrellas" sculpture by George Zongolopoulos, located on the New Waterfront (Nea Paralia) in the Thessaloniki Municipal Unit, Greece, at night
The scene depicts the "Umbrellas" sculpture by George Zongolopoulos, located on the New Waterfront (Nea Paralia) in the Thessaloniki Municipal Unit, Greece, at night. Numerous translucent umbrellas, predominantly white with isolated instances of subtle purple and yellowish illumination, are mounted on tall, slender, metallic poles of varying heights. These poles emerge from a dark, flat ground surface, likely a promenade, which features recessed circular ground lights at their bases. In the lower right foreground, two human figures are present: an adult, dressed in dark outerwear and a hat, stands upright, with a child in dark clothing positioned immediately to their left. Both individuals are static and facing generally towards the left. The background consists of a completely dark night sky occupying the upper portion of the frame. The left and lower left background reveal the dark expanse of the Thermaic Gulf with a distant, faint line of city lights visible on the horizon. Artificial illumination from the sculpture and ground lights provides the primary light source, creating sharp contrast against the pervasive darkness of the environment.
