In the immediate foreground on the left, a dense mass of branches from a deciduous shrub or tree is prominently featured, heavily laden with numerous small, spherical, red berries. Interspersed within these branches are a few small, persistent orange-brown leaves. Above this, the intricate, bare branches of a larger deciduous tree, possibly a birch, extend across the top of the frame, retaining sporadic yellow-orange foliage and some hanging clusters of red berries. A dirt path or unpaved road runs horizontally across the midground, separating a strip of ground covered in green and brown grass with scattered fallen leaves from a placid body of water. Along the far bank of this water body, several bare deciduous trees, some exhibiting pollarded or coppiced forms, are visible. On the right side of the water's edge, a single individual is seated, facing the water, appearing to be engaged in fishing. The water surface is calm and reflects the diffused grey light from the overcast sky. A faint line of distant trees or land is discernible on the horizon beyond the water.
