This close-up image depicts a cluster of subterranean termites engaged in activity on a tree trunk in Otolokpo, Nigeria. The scene is dominated by varied textures: rough, light grey-white bark with deep furrows on the left, transitioning into darker brown, granular material consisting of soil, chewed wood, and detritus on the right and bottom. Several individual termites are visible. One prominent, yellowish-orange termite, likely a soldier, with a distinct head and mandibles, is positioned near the top center on a smoother, darker brown surface. To its lower left, another similar but slightly smaller termite is horizontally oriented. Below these, a group of smaller, paler, more translucent yellowish termites, identified as workers, are moving within the brown granular debris.
