This image depicts a faded, slightly discolored black and white photograph mounted on a light beige wall
This image depicts a faded, slightly discolored black and white photograph mounted on a light beige wall. The photograph is enclosed in a clear protective sheet, adhered to the wall with a small piece of white tape visible above its center. The physical photograph is located in the city of South Sakwa ward, Kenya. The photograph itself shows a group of approximately eight to nine men standing together outdoors in what appears to be an urban setting, with indistinct architectural structures in the background. The men are arranged in a horizontal line, facing generally towards the viewer. Most of the men are wearing suits, jackets, and trousers. In the center, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is identifiable, wearing a lighter, patterned short-sleeved shirt and trousers, and holding a distinctive dark staff in his left hand. To his immediate right (viewer's left), a man in a dark suit stands. Further to the viewer's left are three other men in suits. To Kenyatta's immediate left (viewer's right), a man in a light-colored suit or traditional attire is visible, and further to his left, at least two more men in dark suits are present. The individuals are identified by a caption positioned directly below the photograph. The caption, printed on a white rectangular label, reads: "Mzee Jomo Kenyatta (Centre), from left to right, Achieng Oneko, Njoroge Mungai, Tom Mboya, Chokwe, Dr. Gakonyo Kiano and Oginga Odinga. 1964." This identifies the central figure as Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and lists other prominent Kenyan figures from the specified year. The photograph exhibits signs of age, including blurring, fading, and a slight blue tint along its right edge.
