A framed black and white photograph of a young Zhou Enlai is displayed in what appears to be a museum setting. He is depicted wearing a military-style uniform with a cap, looking directly at the camera. The photograph is captioned "周恩来在大佛寺举办“高级政治训练班”" (Zhou Enlai holding a "High-level Political Training Class" at Dahuang Temple). Above the image, a title reads "在黄埔军校任政治部主任的周恩来" (Zhou Enlai as Director of the Political Department of Whampoa Military Academy). Accompanying text provides historical context: In January 1924, Sun Yat-sen proposed the "Three Great Policies" of "alliance with Russia, alliance with the Communist Party, and assistance to peasants and workers" at the First National Congress of the Kuomintang, marking the official formation of the First United Front. Sun Yat-sen's death in March 1925 led to a crisis in the KMT-CPC cooperation. The "Zhongshan Gunboat Incident" and "Party Affairs Rectification Case" in 1926 further threatened the alliance. Guangzhou, as a cradle of the Chinese democratic revolution, witnessed the entire process of the First United Front. Dahuang Temple, located in Guangzhou's core area, developed a special connection with the Communist Party of China. In March 1926, the CCP Guangdong-Guangxi Regional Committee decided to strengthen united front work by uniting youth military personnel from the Yunnan and Guangxi armies, establishing the Southwest Revolutionary Comrades Association at Dahuang Temple, with members primarily from the Chinese Youth Military Personnel Association. In May 1926, Zhou Enlai organized a "High-level Political Training Class" at Dahuang Temple. This class served to accommodate Communist Party members expelled from the First National Revolutionary Army and Whampoa Military Academy, and to train cadres for the upcoming Northern Expedition, Nanchang Uprising, Guangzhou Uprising, and Autumn Harvest Uprising, where these trainees played crucial roles.
