The K-Pg (K-T) boundary marks the transition between the Cretaceous and Paleogene periods, approximately 66 million years ago. This boundary, characterized by iridium-rich clay layers, signifies a mass extinction event, notably the demise of dinosaurs. Research in Jiayin, Heilongjiang, China, from 2002-2011, led to the definition of the K-Pg boundary. A monument was erected in Xiaoheyan village on August 24, 2011, marking it as the 95th among the 105 global K-Pg boundary points.
