The image captures the Porta Garibaldi, a neoclassical archway, located in Milan, Italy, at Piazza XXV Aprile, viewed looking north towards the Porta Nuova district. The monumental arch, constructed from light-colored stone blocks, features a triangular pediment, a dentilated frieze, classical pilasters or columns flanking the arch, and relief carvings of winged figures (genii) on its spandrels. The soffit of the arch is coffered. Through the archway, a contemporary urban environment is visible under an overcast or partly cloudy sky. This background includes multiple modern glass-clad skyscrapers; one is dark and tall, while another, lighter-colored building shows scaffolding and a red construction crane on its roof. In the middle ground, bare deciduous trees line a street. A light blue car and a light pink/purple bus are visible on the street, with a single indistinct human figure near the bus. A white, modern-style door leans vertically against the inner right support column of the archway.
