An adult Gentoo penguin and a chick stand on dry, yellowish-brown grassland within a larger colony at Bluff Cove, Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas). The adult, dark grey and white with a prominent orange beak and a white head stripe, stands upright, looking slightly upward and to the left. The smaller chick, primarily light grey and white with a smaller orange beak, stands directly in front of and slightly to the left of the adult, with its beak wide open, indicating vocalization or begging. Patches of green grass are visible around their immediate vicinity. In the background, numerous other Gentoo penguins are dispersed across the undulating, grass-covered terrain, some standing, some lying down, and several partially obscured. Visible depressions or burrows are present in the ground throughout the scene.
