The image depicts the central courtyard of Rila Monastery (Rilski manastir) in Bulgaria, observed on an overcast day. The foreground and midground consist of a large, irregular flagstone pavement. To the left, a prominent Orthodox church features striped red and white domes, one topped with an ornate cross, and an exterior with black and white horizontal striped arches containing murals. Across the courtyard, the multi-story monastic residential wing presents a red-tiled roof and an open arcade with white arches and pillars on at least two levels.
