The image depicts a partially frozen section of the Svislach River in Minsk, Belarus, during either sunrise or sunset
The image depicts a partially frozen section of the Svislach River in Minsk, Belarus, during either sunrise or sunset. The river occupies the lower two-thirds of the frame. A large, irregularly shaped sheet of light blue-white ice covers the left side of the river, its jagged edge extending diagonally from the lower left towards the upper right. The remaining open water is dark, calm, and reflective, mirroring the sky. Two ducks, appearing to be a male and female Mallard, swim from left to right in the open water near the bottom center, leaving distinct ripples on the surface. The female is slightly behind the male. Both banks of the river are lined with dark, vertical concrete retaining walls. Above these walls, dense rows of leafless deciduous trees stand in silhouette, indicating winter or early spring. Several streetlights are visible among the trees on the left bank. In the background, a multi-arched bridge spans the river, and beyond it, an urban skyline featuring various buildings is discernible. The sky, occupying the upper third, exhibits a gradient from pale blue overhead to a warm orange-yellow near the horizon, typical of low-angle sun. Wispy clouds are present. A bright orange reflection, likely from the sun, is visible on the distant water surface.
