Stake attention in this memory
This is a bas-relief sculpture depicting the Flagellation of Christ, located in Prešov, Slovakia. The scene shows Jesus Christ, bound and stripped to the waist, tied to a central column. He is being scourged by at least three figures. One figure on the left holds a whip and stands over Jesus. Another figure behind Jesus, dressed in a red tunic, raises his hands. To the right of Jesus, another man, shirtless and dark-skinned, stands with a whip in his right hand and appears to be preparing to strike. Two other figures are visible in the background within an arched opening, one with hands raised. The figures are rendered in a stylized, somewhat crude manner. The sculpture is set within an arched recess decorated with ornamental plasterwork. Below the sculpture, the ground is depicted as a tiled floor. In the foreground, below the frame of the sculpture, is a small arrangement of yellow flowers. The overall impression is that of a devotional artwork, possibly part of a Way of the Cross.
