One hippo is positioned on the left, partially submerged with its head and upper back visible above the water surface, facing generally forward. The second hippo, located on the right and closer to the foreground, has its head and mouth wide open, exposing its large tusks (canines and incisors) and pink oral cavity. A weathered metal grid fence occupies the lower portion of the frame, partially obscuring the lower jaw of the open-mouthed hippo. A rectangular metallic sign, visibly corroded and displaying Chinese characters including "动物区域" (Animal Area), is attached to the fence. The surface of the water contains scattered organic debris and exhibits bright reflections from overhead illumination.
