Città del VaticanoVatican City

A circular brass or bronze floor medallion is centrally embedded in a multi-patterned marble floor within Città del Vaticano, Vatican City. The medallion features an ornate openwork design. Its central element is a papal tiara surmounting crossed keys, encircled by the Latin inscription "POLITICA . PII . XI . ANNO . MCMXXIX . DOMINI," which translates to "Politics of Pius XI, Year 1929 A.D." Decorative motifs include scrolling foliage, stylized flowers, and two horizontally oriented fish or dolphins positioned at the left and right quadrants. The medallion, approximately 0.75 meters in diameter, is set into an octagonal section of polished reddish-brown marble with distinct veining. This octagon is bordered by a geometric arrangement of polished marble tiles, including sections of white marble with grey veining and black marble with white veining. The floor exhibits minor surface wear and a small crack is visible in the lower-left portion of the reddish-brown marble. No individuals or activities are depicted.
