An arid, open-air apiary is depicted in Nakhonay, Afghanistan. Approximately sixty to seventy weathered, rectangular wooden beehives are scattered across a dusty, gravelly ground under a hazy, pale blue sky. Many hives are partially wrapped in faded fabric or plastic sheeting, including colors such as white, light blue, and light green. The wooden lids of several hives are secured by individual rocks. In the background, beyond the apiary, the terrain is flat and barren, transitioning to what appears to be disturbed earth.
