This image depicts a section of the historic Fontaine aux Dauphins (Dolphin Fountain) located on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Narbonne, France. The scene is a vertical segment of a weathered, light-colored stone fountain integrated into a larger architectural structure. The central feature is a relief carving of three stylized fish or dolphins, positioned vertically, emerging from a textured background resembling aquatic flora or coral. Each of the three central creatures has a dark metal spout protruding from its open mouth, with streams of water actively flowing from the left and middle spouts. Below these, a rectangular stone basin with recessed panels collects the water. To the far left, at a lower level, a smaller, grotesque carved face also features a metal spout from which water flows. Above the main fish carvings, a large, ornate shell-like (scallop) motif is carved into the stone, flanked by vertical architectural elements suggestive of pilasters. The entire stone surface exhibits signs of age, including discoloration, erosion, and minor biological growth in crevices. A red rectangular sign with white text, clearly reading "EAU NON POTABLE" (WATER NOT DRINKABLE) and displaying a crossed-out drinking glass icon, is affixed to the right side of the fountain at the basin level. A smaller, partially visible sign with a similar warning is present on the left. No individuals are visible within the frame.
