The image depicts the American Falls at the City of Niagara Falls, United States of America, as viewed from the water. A wide curtain of white, turbulent water cascades down dark, rugged cliffs on the left and central mid-ground, with green vegetation clinging to the ledges. Heavy mist rises from the base of the falls, obscuring the right side of the scene and parts of the sky. The sky above the left side is partly cloudy with patches of blue visible through white and light gray clouds. Numerous gulls are present; some fly high against the sky, others soar near the falls, and a large flock moves low over the dark, choppy, teal-blue water, particularly dense on the right. A small, dark rock formation is faintly visible in the misty distance on the water towards the right-center. The blurred pinkish-red tip of a human finger or thumb is visible in the extreme lower-left corner.
