On August 7, 1998, at 10:38 a.m., a truck bomb exploded outside the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, killing 240 and injuring over 4,000. At 10:39 a.m., another bomb went off outside the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing 12 and injuring 85. Dozens of vehicles, including a Suzuki, were destroyed. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility to protest the 1990 deployment of U.S. troops to Saudi Arabia. There is a photograph of the damaged embassy.
