A large, patinated bronze statue of Mercury (Hermes) is prominently affixed to the light-colored stone facade of the Koninklijk Paleis op de Meir in Antwerp, Belgium. The nude, muscular male figure stands dynamically with his left leg forward, wearing a winged helmet (petasus) and winged sandals (talaria). His right arm is raised, holding a caduceus vertically. A drapery flows behind his left side. The statue rests on an ornate, vessel-shaped architectural plinth. The surrounding building facade exhibits classical elements, including a large, fluted or channeled pilaster to the right of the statue, framed rectangular windows with white sills, and carved stone decorative details above the upper windows. Strong sunlight from the upper right casts sharp, vertical shadows across the stone facade and highlights the statue's green-blue patina. A black metal balcony railing is partially visible at the lower left.
