A gathering of approximately fifteen to twenty white pelicans is situated on a sunlit, rocky and concrete bank adjacent to a body of dark, partially ice-covered water in Shakhty, Russia. The pelicans display white and light grey plumage, with prominent long beaks that are either yellow or reddish-orange at their distal ends. Several pelicans are oriented directly towards the camera, while others face the water or are positioned away. Direct sunlight from the upper left casts distinct shadows of the birds and ground features. The water's surface reflects bare deciduous tree branches and shows thin patches of ice, particularly on the right side. Across the water, the background consists of dense, leafless deciduous trees and brush. Behind this foliage, various structures are visible: an older, possibly industrial building with exposed pipes on the left, and several lighter-colored buildings further to the right. A large fallen tree trunk or branch extends partially into the water from the far bank. The pelicans are observed standing on the bank and on a concrete platform that juts out over the water on the right. No human subjects are present.
