The image depicts the Quartel da GNR do Carmo, located at Largo do Carmo, Lisbon, Portugal. The main subject is a two-story neoclassical building featuring a dark red facade and prominent white architectural elements. Its central portico is supported by six white Ionic columns, which uphold a triangular pediment adorned with a white relief crest consisting of a central star encircled by a wreath and flanked by decorative foliage. The building's front features three white-framed entrance doors and multiple white-framed windows. Access to the entrance is provided by a wide set of three shallow stone steps. To the immediate left, a dark metal outdoor staircase is partially visible. The foreground and ground directly in front of the building are paved with traditional light gray Portuguese cobblestones (calçada). A low, gray stone block retaining wall runs diagonally across the mid-ground, separating the immediate area from a slightly lower street level. A small red object, possibly a utility cap, is visible on the cobblestones near the base of this wall. Further back on the right, a second, smaller red building with white columns is visible. A white car is parked on the street between the two red structures. One individual, dressed in dark clothing, is walking away from the camera on the far right side of the street, near the second building. A tall, gray metal street lamp post stands on the far right. The sky is clear and light blue, indicating fair weather, with lighting suggestive of early morning or late afternoon.
