The fanned tail extends widely, primarily displaying the dark grey and silvery undersides of its ocellated covert feathers, which radiate outwards. The peafowl's body, visible beneath the fanned tail, exhibits rufous-brown flank feathers and darker, possibly iridescent, back feathers. Its legs are visible on the ground.
