A male Dark-backed Weaver (Ploceus bicolor) is perched on a thorny branch, observed in Durban, South Africa. The bird is oriented with its back facing the viewer, its head subtly turned to the left. Its head is uniformly dark, transitioning to a reddish-orange hue on the nape and upper back. The lower back and wings are characterized by a distinct pattern of black feathers intermingled with prominent yellow markings. The tail is dark brown. The supporting branch is woody, featuring numerous sharp, light-colored thorns and scattered small clusters of light green foliage. The background is softly blurred, presenting a mottled green and light grey, indicative of a natural outdoor environment.
