The scene depicts an apiary located on a desolate, rocky, and dusty terrain within the city of Nakhonay, Afghanistan. Dozens of weathered Langstroth-style beehives, predominantly wooden boxes with faded blue, green, and white painted accents on their lids and bodies, are arranged across the foreground and midground. The ground surface is composed of light brown packed earth extensively mixed with small to medium-sized grey stones and gravel. In the mid-distance, a low, wide, earthen embankment or wall runs horizontally, on which several small, indistinct dark figures, identified as people, are faintly visible. Beyond this embankment, the landscape is flat and barren, extending towards a hazy horizon where faint structures and sparse vegetation are discernible under a pale, overcast, and dusty grey sky. No individuals are observed actively interacting with the beehives.
