The foreground and mid-ground are covered by sparse, dry, yellowish-brown grass intermixed with exposed, sandy-brown earth. A prominent, steep embankment of reddish-brown soil rises diagonally from the mid-ground towards the upper right. Rooted into this embankment, slightly right of center, is a large, multi-leafed, green spiky plant, resembling a sisal or agave, which casts a shadow to its immediate left. Further up the slope and to the left of this plant, a sparse tree with thin, bare branches stands against the sky. The upper crest of the embankment exhibits scattered patches of green vegetation. Faint, worn depressions consistent with a narrow path are visible ascending the slope on the left side. No individuals, animals, or artificial structures are present.
