The scene captures an elevated coastal view in Arienzo, Italy, under a partly cloudy sky. In the immediate foreground, a heavily pollarded deciduous tree with thick, gnarled, grey-brown branches occupies the lower central and right portions of the frame. Numerous light-colored, circular cut surfaces on the branches indicate recent pruning. Thin, bare branches extend from the main structure. To the left, a smaller tree or structure is covered by a dark green mesh tarp supported by a metal framework, with several terracotta pots positioned on the green, grassy ground which also features small yellow flowers. A metal barrier or fence is partially visible at the lower right. The midground presents a descending slope revealing parts of a residential area with white-walled buildings, some featuring red-tiled roofs and white railings on balconies or terraces. These structures are interspersed with green and sparse vegetation, including olive trees. A dark, rectangular, vertical panel is affixed to a structure in the mid-right. The background consists of a vast expanse of calm, light blue-grey sea, extending to a distant horizon. Several small boats, appearing as white or dark specks, are sparsely distributed across the water; at least one sailboat with a mast is discernible.
