Both birds exhibit dark grey body plumage, white and pale yellow primary and secondary wing feathers, and reddish-brown tertial and tail feathers. Their heads feature a distinctive golden bristly crown, red facial patches, and black and white markings. The cranes are positioned on slender, dark legs amidst dense, low-lying green aquatic vegetation.
