The image depicts a polluted waterway or canal in Ibasa, Nigeria

IbasaNigeria

The image depicts a polluted waterway or canal in Ibasa, Nigeria. A dilapidated, light-colored wooden dugout canoe, approximately 3-4 meters long, rests partially submerged on the muddy bank in the mid-ground. The boat's interior is visible and contains various pieces of trash. The immediate shoreline around the boat is heavily contaminated with black, oily residue and an accumulation of refuse, including plastic bags and debris. Beyond the boat, the murky, reflective water body extends, bordered by a dense line of lush green mangrove trees whose roots are visible along the far bank. Several thin wooden stakes are embedded vertically in the muddy near bank. In the foreground, a large pile of cut wooden branches or logs is stacked on a grassy area to the left and center. On top of this pile, a grey woven sack, partially covered by a green mesh bag, is present. The overall environment shows signs of both natural vegetation and significant human-induced pollution. No people or animals are visible.
