Stake attention in this memory
This image depicts the "Bitter Memories of Childhood" monument, situated within the National Museum "Holodomor Victims Memorial" at Lavrska Street, 3, Kyiv, Ukraine. The central subject is a full-height bronze statue of a young, emaciated girl, distinguished by two long braids. She stands barefoot on a rectangular plinth, subtly tilted forward, with her hands clasped at chest height, holding a small, red poppy flower. An additional red poppy rests on the plinth at her bare feet. The girl wears a simple, flowing dress, and her gaze is directed slightly downwards and to her right. The plinth is affixed to a large, circular, disc-shaped bronze pedestal. This pedestal features a textured, vertically ridged side and a flatter, horizontally ridged top surface containing several small circular indentations. A bronze band with cut-out letters encircles the lower part of the disc. The entire pedestal and immediate ground are wet, indicating recent precipitation. The monument is positioned on a paved surface constructed from dark, rectangular, irregularly shaped pavers, also wet. To the left of the statue, tall, leafy green trees form a dense background. To the right, a paved pathway extends into the distance, flanked by a vegetated grassy bank. In the mid-ground, two large, circular stone millstones lie horizontally on the ground, one on either side of the pathway. The distant horizon reveals faint urban structures and a slender, vertical mast under an overcast sky with grey clouds.
