The image depicts the Altare della Patria (Victor Emmanuel II National Monument) in Rome, Italy, under a clear blue sky. The lower half of the frame is dominated by a wide, multi-tiered marble staircase with weathered steps. A low, chain-link barrier on stone posts separates the staircase from the monumental structure. The monument itself is constructed of white marble, featuring classical architectural elements including columns, friezes, and numerous sculpted figures along its curved facade. In the upper-right section, an equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II is prominently displayed. Two quadriga statues are visible on the roofline to the left. Central to the monument's mid-level facade is a large statue of the goddess Roma, set within a golden mosaic niche. Directly below this statue, a large ceremonial wreath rests on a raised stone platform which contains an inscription. Two uniformed guards stand rigidly at attention on this platform, symmetrically flanking the wreath and inscription. They wear dark, ceremonial uniforms and hats. A partial view of one or more civilians is visible on the far right edge of the frame, positioned above the level of the guards.
