Stake attention in this memory
The image shows a marble tombstone inscribed with text, placed on a floor made of hexagonal red tiles. The tombstone is cracked in several places. The inscription at the top reads "SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF MRS. GRACE BECK. WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE IN THE THIRTY EIGHT YEAR OF HER AGE, ON THE 26TH JANUARY, 1801." Below this, the inscription continues with a tribute to her character: "To commemorate her amiable virtues as an affec-tionate and tender wife, a warm and steady friend, her disconsolate husband, hath caused this tablet to be placed over, her ever to be revered Remains. Conjugum optima mulierum amantissima Vale." At the bottom right corner, there is a small inscription "G. Gibson Set". To the left of the tombstone, a darker stone slab with carved text is partially visible, suggesting it is another tombstone or monument. This scene is located within the Dutch Reformed Church in Galle Fort, Galle, Sri Lanka.
