Stake attention in this memory
A ground-level commemorative monument is depicted, marking the former site of the Strasbourg Synagogue in Strasbourg, France. The monument features a horizontally oriented, polished black granite slab bearing an inscription in gold-colored French text: "ICI S'ÉLEVAIT DEPUIS 1898 LA SYNAGOGUE DE STRASBOURG INCENDIÉE ET RASÉE PAR LES NAZIS LE 12 SEPTEMBRE 1940." This slab rests upon a tiered base of rough-textured, light grey granite blocks. Directly in front of the inscribed slab, the ground is covered by several light grey granite paving slabs, one of which contains a smaller, embedded rectangular metallic plaque. A concrete curb separates the monument from a reddish-brown brick paved path visible in the foreground. The surrounding environment includes exposed soil with scattered brown and reddish autumn leaves and sparse green vegetation. No individuals or active subjects are present.
