St. Peter's Basilica, a large stone building with a prominent central dome and numerous statues along its roofline, occupies the background. To the left of the Basilica, a section of the Vatican colonnade, also topped with statues, is visible. The sky above is clear blue, illuminated by bright sunlight which creates a distinct lens flare originating from the upper right quadrant. The square is densely packed with a diverse crowd of people standing, many oriented towards the Basilica. Numerous national flags are held aloft by individuals throughout the crowd. Metal barriers are present, segmenting areas within the assembly. A large screen or display is visible near the base of the Basilica on the right side.
