The image depicts a cultural event occurring on a paved street in Aidemir, Bulgaria
The image depicts a cultural event occurring on a paved street in Aidemir, Bulgaria. In the background, a three-story grey concrete building with a tiled roof is visible. A white sign with Cyrillic text "ЗЕМЕДЕЛСКА СПРАВКА" (Agricultural Reference) is present on the building's facade. Several air conditioning units are mounted on the building. In the midground and foreground, a procession of approximately seven to nine individuals in traditional Bulgarian folk costumes is in progress. Several male participants wear white shirts, red vests, black knee-length trousers, white patterned leg wraps (nalatsi), and brown moccasin-style shoes (tsarvuli), topped with dark kalpak hats. Each of these individuals carries a rectangular, light-colored object (possibly fur or sheepskin covered) on their back and holds one or two long wooden sticks. They are in various stages of movement, suggesting dancing or parading. Two prominent, larger figures are central to the procession, adorned in elaborate, bulky costumes characteristic of Kukeri traditions. One figure has a large, elongated animal-like mask with a beak-like snout and visible teeth, constructed from natural materials and decorated with fabric. The other large figure is similarly covered in natural materials and intricate fabric panels. To the far left, a smaller masked figure in traditional attire is partially visible. In the background, behind the performers, a crowd of spectators in contemporary clothing observes the event from the side of the street. A cluster of red, white, and green balloons, matching the colors of the Bulgarian flag, is situated behind the performers. A white canopy tent is visible on the far left. The sky is overcast.
