An outdoor scene in Jos, Nigeria, features a young Black male in the foreground actively playing a traditional drum

JosNigeria

An outdoor scene in Jos, Nigeria, features a young Black male in the foreground actively playing a traditional drum. He wears a white tank top, dark red shorts with white side stripes, a red and white beaded necklace, and a brown feathered armlet on his left bicep. A black fringed wrap is tied around his waist over the shorts. His right hand strikes the drumhead, which is made of animal hide, while his left hand is also positioned near the drum. The drum is cylindrical, made of dark wood, and secured by lacing around its body, with a light-colored, possibly fur-trimmed rim at the bottom. A strap holds the drum against his body. To his right, partially visible, is another Black male similarly dressed in a white tank top and red striped shorts, also playing a drum with a stick. In the mid-ground and background, several other individuals are present, some observing and others appearing to be involved in the event. Two traditional thatched-roof structures are visible behind the individuals, amidst green foliage and under a clear to partly cloudy blue sky. The ground is light brown, consistent with dirt or sand. The scene depicts an active cultural gathering or performance under daylight conditions.
