The image depicts the colossal Leshan Giant Buddha, carved into a cliff face at Mount Lingyun, within the Shizhong District of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, China. The scene is captured from a high vantage point, looking down and across the massive statue and its surrounding environment. The central subject is the upper body of the Buddha, including its head, shoulders, and chest. The statue is carved from reddish-brown sandstone, exhibiting significant weathering, dark vertical streaks from water runoff, and patches of green moss and vegetation, particularly on its lower visible sections and the adjacent cliff. The Buddha's eyes are closed, its nose is prominent and discolored, and its hair is rendered as tightly coiled nodules. Long earlobes extend down both sides of the head. To the left of the Buddha, the reddish-brown cliff face descends sharply, displaying natural strata and smaller carved recesses. A series of steep, winding wooden or stone staircases with railings are visible, carved into the cliff to allow visitors to descend. Dense green trees and shrubs cover the top of the cliff and grow in various crevices along the rock face. Above and to the left of the Buddha's head, on a relatively flat plateau, a significant number of people, estimated at 50-70 individuals, are gathered. They appear to be tourists, forming queues or congregating on a paved area. Red-roofed structures and red parasols are visible among the crowd. Safety railings and fencing are installed along the cliff edges surrounding the viewing areas. The sky is uniformly overcast and grey, indicating a cloudy day. In the immediate bottom right foreground, a partial view of a human hand with an orange sleeve is visible, resting on a dark railing, suggesting the photographer's perspective from a secured viewing platform overlooking the Buddha.
