The image displays a traditional Balinese Candi Bentar, or split gate, situated in Bedugul, Indonesia
The image displays a traditional Balinese Candi Bentar, or split gate, situated in Bedugul, Indonesia. The gate consists of two imposing, dark grey stone pillars, heavily adorned with intricate carvings of mythological figures, floral motifs, and scrollwork, indicative of significant weathering and some moss growth. Each pillar tapers upwards with multiple tiers, featuring reddish-brown elements within recessed sections. Between and beyond the gate pillars, a calm expanse of deep blue water, characteristic of a lake, is visible, bordered in the distance by lush green, forested hills under a bright blue sky with scattered white clouds. At the base of the left gate pillar stands a stone guardian statue, possibly a Dwarapala, draped in a red and white checkered fabric (poleng cloth). This figure is depicted with an open, fanged mouth and holds a club-like object in its raised right hand. The upper sections of both pillars feature detailed sculptural elements, including a prominent mythical head on the left pillar. A small rectangular sign with red text on a yellow background is affixed to the lower section of the right pillar. Dark grey stone steps, showing signs of wear, lead up to the gate in the immediate foreground. No human figures are present in the scene.
