An exterior, low-angle photograph depicts the ornate stone entrance of the New York Athletic Club at 180 Central Park South, New York City, United States of America
An exterior, low-angle photograph depicts the ornate stone entrance of the New York Athletic Club at 180 Central Park South, New York City, United States of America. The facade is constructed of light-colored, possibly limestone, with "NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB" carved into the stone directly below an upper archway, and "180 CENTRAL PARK SOUTH" inscribed beneath it. A large, illuminated, multi-tiered chandelier with amber-colored glass panels hangs centrally from the archway. The main entrance at ground level features a central, partially open, golden-framed revolving door, flanked by two closed golden-framed doors with glass panels. Two fluted stone pillars with dark granite bases stand between the doors, supporting the upper structure. Attached to each pillar is a small, rectangular golden plaque bearing the inscription "THE ATHLETIC PRIVATE CLUB". Above the doors, three windows are set into the stone, with the central window reflecting bare tree branches and the sky, alongside interior light. Ornate golden trim and a decorative carved frieze are present above the doorways. The ground in front of the entrance includes a dark mat leading to a patterned stone floor. No individuals are visible.
