The image displays a large, vertical, rectangular stone or concrete plaque commemorating the inscription of The Great Wall on the World Heritage List
The image displays a large, vertical, rectangular stone or concrete plaque commemorating the inscription of The Great Wall on the World Heritage List. The plaque exhibits a light gray, somewhat weathered surface with vertical streaking and discoloration, suggesting exposure to elements. Faint horizontal and vertical lines divide the surface into segments. On the far left, a narrow vertical strip of darker, coarser-grained stone is visible. At the top, the UNESCO logo is prominently displayed, followed by the text "UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATION." Below this, a large circular emblem with a stylized, inverted 'Y' shape at its center (the World Heritage Convention logo) is centrally embossed. Encircling this logo and above it, the text reads: "CONVENTION CONCERNING THE PROTECTION OF THE WORLD CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE." Further down, the inscription states: "The World Heritage Committee has inscribed" followed by "The Great Wall" in a decorative script font, and then "on the World Heritage List." A paragraph beneath explains: "Inscription on this List confirms the exceptional and universal value of a cultural or natural site which requires protection for the benefit of all humanity." At the bottom left, the text "DATE OF INSCRIPTION" is followed by a handwritten-style date, "4 December 1987." On the bottom right, an illegible stylized signature appears above the text "DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF UNESCO." No people or other active subjects are present. The very bottom left of the frame shows a few thin, dark, branched elements, possibly twigs or roots. This plaque is situated at a site related to The Great Wall within Yanqing District, China, likely at one of the accessible sections such as Badaling or Juyongguan, to commemorate its World Heritage status.
