This image depicts a section of the ornate stone facade of the House of A

Saint PetersburgRussia

This image depicts a section of the ornate stone facade of the House of A. D. Daleko (also known as House of A. V. Nechaev), located at Nevsky Prospekt 40, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The building's architecture is eclectic, incorporating classical and Art Nouveau elements. The upper visible section of the facade features two arched windows, each with four reflective glass panes that show reflections of blue sky and opposite buildings. The left upper window is flanked by two sculpted male Atlantes, depicted semi-nude and supporting the window's architrave with their raised arms. Between these two windows, a recessed niche houses a standing carved male warrior figure, clad in a helmet and tunic, holding a shield on his left arm and a staff in his right hand. Above this warrior, a classical stone urn rests on a pedestal. To the right of the urn, a carved stone balustrade is visible. A light-grey metallic rainwater downpipe runs vertically from the upper-middle to the lower-middle section, slightly off-center to the left, partially obscuring the facade. Multiple thin, dark utility wires, likely tram or trolleybus lines, traverse the upper and mid-sections horizontally and diagonally. A thicker, light-colored wire crosses the lower left. The lower portion of the facade includes another arched window on the left, through which white patterned curtains are visible. To the right of this window is a large, intricately carved dark wooden double door with an arched transom window above, featuring detailed woodwork and glazing. Positioned between the lower window and the double door is a prominent carved stone sculpture of a double caryatid, depicting two conjoined female figures in classical drapery and elaborate headwear, supporting an architectural element. The building material appears to be light-colored stone or stucco, showing signs of weathering. The scene is illuminated by direct sunlight. No active human presence or interactions are depicted; all figures are static sculptures.
