An Eastern Orthodox icon depicting the Theotokos holding the infant Jesus is positioned indoors in Kresna, Bulgaria
An Eastern Orthodox icon depicting the Theotokos holding the infant Jesus is positioned indoors in Kresna, Bulgaria. The rectangular icon, a print on a board with a textured gold-colored background, leans against a light-colored, textured wall. The Virgin Mary, portrayed on the left, wears a dark red maphorion adorned with gold-colored details and fringe, gazing slightly to the viewer's right. Her hands are clasped in front of the child. The infant Jesus, depicted on the right, is dressed in a light blue tunic and a reddish-gold garment with shimmering accents. He holds a small object in his left hand and raises his right hand in a gesture of blessing, gazing forward. Both figures have golden halos; Jesus's halo contains a cruciform design. Greek inscriptions are visible above the figures, identifying them and labeling the Virgin as "The Queen of the Angels." Two small angels are depicted in the upper corners of the icon, one holding a cross. Below the icon, a dark, flat surface is visible. To the right of the icon, a dark recess or doorway reveals a dimly lit interior with wooden structures.
