A historic stone fountain and a commemorative plaque are integrated into a light-colored limestone wall in Victoria, Malta
A historic stone fountain and a commemorative plaque are integrated into a light-colored limestone wall in Victoria, Malta. Centered above the fountain is a rectangular white marble plaque inscribed with Latin text in capital letters, including the year "ANNO MDCCLXXXVII" prominently displayed at the top. Dark vertical stains are visible on the stone directly above and along the upper edge of the plaque. Below the plaque, an arched recess houses a vertical stone sculpture of a stylized dolphin, its open mouth serving as a spigot. The dolphin's tail extends upwards, culminating in a blunt, possibly eroded or capped tip. Beneath the sculpture, a semi-circular stone basin is present, exhibiting water stains and some dark residue. To the right side of the basin, a small, red and white rectangular sign is affixed, stating "WARNING RECYCLED WATER IN USE DO NOT DRINK" along with a corresponding no-drinking pictogram. The entire structure is composed of precisely cut, light-colored stone blocks, illuminated by bright, natural light.
